Turn on (or off) automatic spelling and grammar checking

1. On the Word menu, click Preferences > Spelling & Grammar.
2. In the Spelling & Grammar dialog box, under Spelling, check or clear the Check spelling as you type box.
3. Under Grammar, check or clear the Check grammar as you type box.

First, pull down the notification shade and tap the gear icon. From there, scroll down to Languages and Input. On Samsung Galaxy devices, this is found under the General Management menu; on Android Oreo, it’s under System. In the Languages and Input menu, find the “Spell Checker” option.

Press ctrl+A to select all text. Go to the Review tab. Click on Language and Set Proofing Language. Uncheck the “Detect language automatically” and “Do not check spelling or grammar” boxes.

You can open the Spelling and Grammar window to check spelling and grammar in your document. Choose Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).

Pages can also check grammar and look up the definitions of words. Use the Spelling and Grammar window (shown below) to check spelling and grammar, add terms to the dictionary, and change the language of the dictionary.

Resolution

1. Open a document in Word for Mac.
2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
3. On the Tools menu, click Language.
4. Select the language dictionary you want the speller to use, such as English (US).
5. Uncheck Do not check spelling or grammar, and then click OK.

In the Word Options dialog box, select Proofing. Make sure that the Check spelling as you type check box is selected in the When correcting spelling and grammar in Word section. Make sure that all check boxes are cleared in the Exception for section.

Disabling Spell Check Setting

1. Do one of the following depending on your operating system: Windows: “File” > “Options” > “Proofing“. macOS: “Word” > “Preferences…” > “Spelling & Grammar“.
2. Uncheck the “Check spelling as you type” box to disable spell checking.
3. In Windows, select “OK“. In macOS, close out of the window.

In the “Keyboard & Input Methods” section of the “Language & input” screen, touch the Quick Settings icon to the right of the Google Keyboard. The “Google Keyboard Settings” screen displays. Touch the “Auto-correction” option.

1. Display the Word Options dialog box.
2. At the left side of the dialog box, click Proofing.
3. Clear the Check Spelling As You Type check box.
4. Click OK.

The AutoCorrect tab of the AutoCorrect dialog box displays the language as defined at the insertion point. Select the whole document and then click Review tab | Language | Set Proofing Language. In the Language dialog box, clear the “Detect language automatically” option.

To perform all-at-once document proofing, follow these steps:

1. Click the Review tab.
2. In the Proofing group, click the Spelling & Grammar button. Errors are shown one at a time as they occur in your document.
3. Deal with the offense.
4. Continue checking your document.
5. Click the OK button once the checking is done.

A quick way to correct a misspelled word in Microsoft Word is to right-click on the word that has a red wavy underline. The resulting pop-up menu contains spelling suggestions which you can then select and have the misspelled word replaced.

Just hit Alt + F7 on your keyboard and it will start with the first misspelled word. If the first highlighted word at the top of the list is correct, just hit Enter. Or you can arrow to the correct one, ignore it, or Add to Dictionary. Hit Alt + F7 again and it will go to the next misspelled word.

If a word has a red wavy line below it, meaning the spellchecker thinks it is misspelled, you can right-click on it and select “Ignore All.” Then the wavy line goes away, for that occurrence and usually for all occurrences of that word in the document.

Adding Words to the Dictionary (Ignore ignores that word once; Ignore All ignores the word through the entire document.) Keep in mind that adding a word to the dictionary will not necessarily add all versions of that word. For example, after adding iPad to the dictionary, the dictionary will still not recognize iPads.

This is a really common pattern, Word uses both of them, Google docs also uses it: If you want the tool to ignore that word wherever it appears in your document, click the drop-down arrow next to the “Ignore” button and select Ignore all.

Ignore All — Ignore All ignores the current instance of the misspelled word as well as all future instances. Ignore All essentially “tricks” the spell checker into thinking the word is in the dictionary; however, the next time a spell check dialog box is opened, it will not remember these settings.

For this purpose, the “Ignore all” option is useful to remove error flagging throughout a document of a correctly written term not listed in the dictionary, while retaining flags on possible typing errors of the same term.

In text-based communication and other communication programs, ignore is an option that enables a user to ignore another user who may be annoying or impolite. Often, this command is activated by typing “/ignore name” where name is the name of the user you want to ignore.
