Launch the Settings app from the Home screen, app drawer, or Notification Shade. Tap Advanced Calling. Tap Advanced Calling to enable HD Voice and Video Calling. Tap the switch to turn it on.

HD voice is supposed to make calls clearer while reducing background noise. It also lets you make calls while using your cellular data for Internet browsing or Internet-connected apps at the same time.

HD Voice is included with most plans for no additional charge.

Since you’re not using a cell tower to place the call, you don’t need a cellular service in order to make a call. For example, Apple calls the new technology Voice over LTE (or VoLTE), AT refers to it as HD Voice, and Verizon calls it either Advanced Calling or HD Voice, but its all essentially Wi-Fi calling.

Android

1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps. Settings. Advanced Calling. . If unavailable, navigate: Settings. Network & Internet.
2. Tap the. Advanced Calling switch. (upper-right) to turn on or off.
3. When turned on, tap either of the following to enable or disable: Enabled when a check mark is present. HD Voice. Video Calling.

HD Voice is included in existing voice plans and minutes are billed as regular voice calls.

In a nutshell, Enhanced HD Voice (EVS) offers up better call quality and a more consistent sounding connection, even over HD Voice. All of these technologies are designed to send voice data over your LTE connection, rather than relying on the older voice network.

High Definition
Available with select devices, HD or “High Definition” calling allows you to take advantage of Verizon’s 4G LTE network and make high-quality, crystal clear calls. With HD calling, you’re also able to make and receive Video calls with other Verizon HD calling-capable Android devices.

It has been a slow roll out, but it is coming. We’re used to seeing the HD moniker on videos and TVs, but now it’s being applied to audio. Essentially though, it has the same meaning – high definition as in high resolution.

All the major carriers do support HD Voice. However you can check with your wireless service provider like AT, Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile to confirm they offer it in your area. They can also confirm which smartphone models they sell will work with VoLTE / HD Voice (High Definition Voice).

HD Voice provides clear and more natural sounding audio on voice calls when both parties are using HD-voice enabled phones over the Verizon 4G LTE network. HD Voice also allows for simultaneous voice and data transfers so you can be talking on the phone while surfing the web or download something all at the same time. Some carriers even have more features like built-in video calling.

They can also confirm which smartphone models they sell will work with VoLTE / HD Voice (High Definition Voice). Please note that for HD voice to work, party you’re calling as well as yourself will need to have HD voice or VoLTE turned on and be within HD Voice or VoLTE coverage range.
