The basic form for a book citation is: Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. City of Publication, Publisher, Publication Date.

MLA citing format often includes the following pieces of information, in this order: Author’s Last name, First name. “Title of Source.” Title of Container, other contributors, version, numbers, publisher, publication date, location.

All book citations should include the following elements:

1. Name of Author, Editor, or Compiler.
2. Title of Book (italicized)
3. Edition used (if on title page and other than the first)
4. Number(s) of Volume(s) if using two or more volumes.
5. City of Publication.
6. Name of Publisher.
7. Year of Publication.
8. Medium of Publication.

An MLA website citation includes the author’s name, the title of the page (in quotation marks), the name of the website (in italics), the publication date, and the URL (without “https://”)….Citing an entire website.

In-text citations include the last name of the author followed by a page number enclosed in parentheses. “Here’s a direct quote” (Smith 8). If the author’s name is not given, then use the first word or words of the title. Follow the same formatting that was used in the Works Cited list, such as quotation marks.

Provide the author name, article name in quotation marks, title of the Web magazine in italics, publisher name, publication date, medium of publication, and the date of access. Remember to use n.p. if no publisher name is available and n.d. if no publishing date is given.

Cite by listing the article’s author, putting the title of the article in quotations marks, and italicizing the periodical title. Follow with the date of publication. Remember to abbreviate the month.

Citing or documenting the sources used in your research serves three purposes: It gives proper credit to the authors of the words or ideas that you incorporated into your paper. Citing your sources consistently and accurately helps you avoid committing plagiarism in your writing.
