Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another. Every communication involves (at least) one sender, a message and a recipient. This may sound simple, but communication is actually a very complex subject.

Language is a system of communication that relies on verbal or non-verbal codes to transfer information. Communication is a way of interchanging messages or information between two or more people, focusing on the message. Language is a tool of communication. Communication is a process of transferring messages.

Communication is a two-way process involving the following elements: a sender, a message, a medium, a channel, a receiver, a response and feedback. However, it is not sufficient to have just all these elements; there should be cooperation and understanding between the two parties involved.

When communication occurs, it typically happens in one of three ways: verbal, nonverbal and visual. People very often take communication for granted. Communicators constantly exchange information, meaning people always seem to be either receiving or giving information.

THE THREE COMPONENTS OF COMMUNICATION The act of communicating involves verbal, nonverbal, and paraverbal components.

Broadly communication can be divided into three categories- verbal, non-verbal and visual.

Seven major elements of communication process are: (1) sender (2) ideas (3) encoding (4) communication channel (5) receiver (6) decoding and (7) feedback.

It enables further clarification or discussion. A basic communication model consists of five components: the sender and receiver, the medium, contextual factors, the message, and feedback.

The six elements of communication process are sender, message, encoding, channel, receiver, and decoding.

This model has been built up upon ten clearly explained elements that are as follows: 1) Sender; 2) Objective; 3) Message; 4) Dispatching; 5) Time-Place Factor; 6) Medium; 7) Reception; 8) Receiver; 9) Understanding; and 10) Response.

The communication process is made up of four key components. Those components include encoding, medium of transmission, decoding, and feedback. There are also two other factors in the process, and those two factors are present in the form of the sender and the receiver.

The communication process involves understanding, sharing, and meaning, and it consists of eight essential elements: source, message, channel, receiver, feedback, environment, context, and interference.

Five Types of Communication

• Verbal Communication. Verbal communication occurs when we engage in speaking with others.
• Non-Verbal Communication. What we do while we speak often says more than the actual words.
• Written Communication.
• Listening.
• Visual Communication.

Every person has a unique communication style, a way in which they interact and exchange information with others. There are four basic communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive and assertive. It’s important to understand each communication style, and why individuals use them.

The sender (1) encodes a message and then (2) transmits it. (3) The receiver decodes the message. (4) The receiver decides whether feedback is needed and, if it is, encodes a message (a response) and transmits it—and the process begins again.
