Namaste – is the traditional way of greeting people that has been in practice for so long across most local traditions of the Indian heritage. To greet someone in this fashion, you just have to join both the palms together in a worshipful pose and say ‘Namaste’.

People greeting each other with namaste are believed to be outdated and those saying hi or hello are accepted in society like anything. Therefore to fit in this modern society Indians usually say hi or hello even if we have our root word Namaskar which shows a great respect for someone.

Birth of a Muslim Nation-State Commonly attributed to age-old religious animosity between Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs, the impetus for the creation of Pakistan can be largely traced to the federal problems that emerged as a byproduct of British rule.

Pakistan’s coastline is about 990 km long, bifurcated in two parts, Sindh Coast (270 km) and Makran Coast (720 km). The Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Pakistan covers an area of about 240,000 sq. km. The maritime zone of Pakistan, including the continental shelf, extends up to 350 nautical miles from the coastline.

Under the terms of the Treaty of Amritsar that followed in March 1846, the British government sold Kashmir for a sum of 7.5 million Nanakshahee rupees to Gulab Singh, hereafter bestowed with the title of Maharaja.

In 1947, Kashmir’s population was “77% Muslim and 20% Hindu”. Once the Maharaja signed the Instrument of Accession, Indian soldiers entered Kashmir and drove the Pakistani-sponsored irregulars from all but a small section of the state.

This time, India’s victory was nearly total: India accepted cease-fire only after it had occupied 740 square miles [1,900 km2], though Pakistan had made marginal gains of 210 square miles [540 km2] of territory. Despite the obvious strength of the Indian wins, both countries claim to have been victorious.

India won 1,920 sqkm of territory; Pakistan won 540 sqkm. 2,862 Indian soldiers were killed; Pakistan lost 5,800 soldiers. India lost 97 tanks; 450 Pakistani tanks were destroyed or captured.

Sino-Indian War

India will not be able to fight a two front war, and is deemed to lose both. China can retake Southern Tibet easily, while Pakistan can control the whole Kashmir. China will be on the leading role in its military power, may be only second to the U.S. Therefore, India will lose this war.

British Indian Army was manning China-Tibet border, and this mantle fell to Indians after Independence. India knew China border was indefensible. It was not feasible to build logistics and fortifications when China attacked in 1962. China would have occupied the peaks by then since they had planned it in advance.

So, can china afford an all-out war with India? The answer would be ‘no’. Another reason would be that the country is already fighting its internal war, and China cannot afford to fire right now as there is already too much global heat against it.

Though India is not a part of any major military alliance, it has close strategic and military relationship with most of the fellow major powers. Countries considered India’s closest include the Russian Federation, Israel, Afghanistan, France, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the United States.
