A car’s braking system has sensors monitoring fluid level, E -brake position, and in some cases brake pad life. A failed sensor can trigger the brake warning light. A technician will need to look at your vehicle to determine whether the light is caused by a failed sensor or an actual issue with the braking system.

Bad Switch: One common reason for the Parking Brake light to stay on is a failing or failed switch. This can be checked easily by jiggling the handle after it is down. If the light turns off (or turns off and then back on), the switch is the most likely culprit and will need to be replaced.

1. Increased effort to push the brake pedal.
2. ABS light coming on in the dash (usually in an amber color)
3. Brakes locking up frequently.

Depending on which magnetic coupling device inside the actuator is failing, you can continue to drive it. However, in my case the problem caused my right caliper burn through brake pads. Eventually destroy the caliper.

When a brake actuator fails, it is usually because of a leak in the actuator itself. Because the brake actuator is pressurized, a leak will decrease the amount of pressure in the actuator, which will cause an overall decrease in brake compression.

If you have both brake and battery codes, it is in your best interest to address the brakes first. If you have this code, your brake actuator will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is not an easy DIY repair and it can be quite costly.

It is a “motor-on-caliper” system that integrates Actuator in the caliper mounted on the rear wheel and operates the Caliper directly without a separate parking cable.
