It’s best to have a dealer or workshop install a stop-start battery. They will have the diagnostic equipment needed to reset the car’s active energy management system. Reprogramming tools can be purchased, but doing it yourself is only recommended for experienced hobby mechanics.

1. Remove the 2x T15 screws securing the door at the very bottom of the doorcard.
2. Remove the switchpack for the electric windows, behind it will be 2 or 3 T30 screws or crosshead screws.
3. Remove the small speaker that has the lock and unlock button on it and remove the T15 screw there.

Unlike a regular battery which simply supplies a large current to turn the starter motor, a stop-start battery has enhanced cyclic performance which has the ability to discharge and recharge many times.

Start-stop systems require a battery with modern technology, because normal starter batteries are not designed to meet the higher demands of these vehicles. For this reason, only EFB or AGM batteries should be installed in vehicles with automatic stop-start systems.

How long so start stop batteries last? While the majority of regular LSI batteries are generally guaranteed to last around four years, they can in fact go on to last up to six or seven years.

Only high performance car batteries such as EFB or AGM batteries can deal with these increased requirements and provide a stable power supply in the vehicle. A battery for a start-stop system can only be replaced with a battery of the same type. In the case of an EFB battery, an upgrade to an AGM may be advisable.

The wrong battery technology has been installed, which can only provide a small number of charging cycles. The outside temperature is too high or too low. If the battery needs too much power to supply the fan, the start-stop function is switched off. The result: The start-stop function is not activated.
