Stanley is a friendly and welcoming place which doesn’t deserve it’s sometimes negative reputation, locals have said. Although the Front Street isn’t as busy as it once was, local business owners say the sense of community and camaraderie is what makes Stanley such a great place to live and do business.

Durham has a great feeling of community and that is a direct result of the cities history, culture, Duke University, and the number of people who are transitioning to North Carolina. With the type of growth that Durham is experiencing it’s no wonder, so many people were not born in the city.

County Durham was the 76th most deprived area, and Northumberland was the least deprived local authority on our region, at 161st. The figures show a big divide between North and South, with 15 of the top 20 most deprived areas in the North or the Midlands, and with most of those being in the North West or North East.

Durham really is as posh as everyone says it is The classic Durham stereotype is that it is one of the poshest universities in the country – a bubble of the south in the middle of the north – and people aren’t wrong.

For Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone, filming at Durham Cathedral took place for 2 weeks in October of the year 2000. In 2001, (the year they filmed Chamber of Secrets), Durham Cathedral was voted Britain’s favourite building.

Durham University has risen to fourth in The Guardian University Guide 2021. The ranking puts us firmly among the UK’s and the world’s leading universities having also been ranked 86th in the QS World University Rankings 2021 and in the world top 100 of the THE World Reputation Rankings 2019.

Durham is one of the world’s leading Universities as shown by our World Top 100 position in the QS World University Rankings 2022, where we are ranked 82nd. 16 Durham subjects are in the World Top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021, including 8 in the World Top 50.

It is not at the level of the Ivies. Durham does not have the brand prestige of Ivy League universities and neither does it have the research power to be a global brand. It has students with high grades but also possesses a very high offer rate to achieve this.

This is because these are essentially rankings on research (and often size of research rather than quality), not quality of education. Interestingly, on one of the few metrics to be actually linked to undergraduate quality – QS’s employer reputation survey – Durham does a lot better than on the main table.

Across all three league tables Durham is the third-highest broad-subject university behind Oxford and Cambridge. The Times Good University Guide also ranked Durham in the top 10 UK universities most targeted by key employers.

Warwick is higher ranked than Durham for Economics. Warwick is more highly regarded for economics than Durham (although both very good universities) from league tables.

The rejection was seen as discrimination because of her state-school background. She subsequently went on to study graduate-entry medicine (a 4-year course) at Wolfson College, Cambridge. In 2016, The Tab asked students at the University of Durham, “which Oxbridge college rejected you and why”.

Durham is just quite famous for being famous and has a great historic & Oxbridge feel. If you are very studious and want to be taught by some strict professors and want to some good reaseach then Bristol is the answer.

Warwick is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the UK, and with that, the focus on careers is evident.

Warwick is a member of the Russell Group of Universities, who’ve self designated themselves as the UK’s most prestigious.

In accordance with the Complete University Guide, Warwick were ranked 7th overall in the 2016 league table. In the time I have been here, a short three years, we are now down to 12th. Last year Warwick ranked 25th overall for student satisfaction – this year we have dropped a dismal 38 places to 63rd.

The University of Warwick is ranked in the top 100 in the world with high academic standards and a good reputation. Really good university and good quality education. Great university, love the people!
