According to tradition, Arabs are descended from a southern Arabian… Islam, which developed in the west-central Arabian Peninsula in the early 7th century ce, was the religious force that united the desert subsistence nomads—the Bedouins—with the town dwellers of the oases.

The Arabs were originally the people of the Arabian desert. Converted to Islam in the 7th century A.D., they conquered the Middle East from the Sassanian and Byzantine empires and established a succession of Arab-Islamic Middle Eastern empires from Spain to Central Asia and from the Caucasus to India.

Arabic, which first emerged in the northwest of the Arabian Peninsula, is a member of the Semitic family of languages which also includes Hebrew and Aramaic. Whilst very early manifestations of Arabic date back as far as the 8th century BCE, the language has been defined and refined over a considerable period of time.

Iran and Turkey are not Arab countries and their primary languages are Farsi and Turkish respectively. Arab countries have a rich diversity of ethnic, linguistic, and religious communities. These include Kurds, Armenians, Berbers and others. There are over 200 million Arabs.

The Pashtuns or Pathans have as varied an ancestry as Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu. Between 8th to 10 century CE majority of the Pashtuns converted to Islam and no other achievement of Islam has been comparable to this achievement.

Some Arabs from the second wave intermarried with the local population as they adopted the languages of northern Afghanistan, namely Uzbek, Turkmen, and Persian language. Afghan Arabs, however, are presently all Dari-speaking and have been in their collective memories. However, they claim an Arab identity.

Ethnically, the Lebanese compose a mixture in which Phoenician, Greek, Armenian, and Arab elements are discernible. Within the larger Lebanese community, ethnic minorities including Armenian and Kurdish populations are also present.
