Regimental Battle Honours The Regiment has amassed 339 Battle Honours. The first Battle Honour was awarded to the Royal Regiment of Foot at the Battle of Tangier in 1680.

Over the course of its long and illustrious history, the Scots Guards has fought in every major conflict with distinction. During that time, the regiment has won an outstanding 93 battle honours and 11 Victoria Crosses.

The Royal Scots Fusiliers were amalgamated with the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) in 1959 to form the Royal Highland Fusiliers, (Princess Margaret’s Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment). The regular 1st battalions of the two Regiments combined at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh to form the 1st Battalion of the new regiment (1 RHF).

The Regiment was awarded seventy-nine Battle Honours out of a total of one hundred and sixty eight that were designated. These covered all the campaigns and battles and the many operational theatres in which the Service Battalions of the Regiment served.

The Regiment went on to serve during the War of the Spanish Succession (1704-1714) fighting at the Battles of Schellenberg, Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenarde, Malplaquet and at the great Siege of Lille. The Regiment was granted the Royal title in 1712 to become ‘The Royal Scots Fusiliers Regiment’.

The solution adopted for the Western Front was to award a Battle Honour to cover the major operation and then additional Battle Honours for the supporting actions which contributed to the operation.
