Marathi is written in the Bāḷabodh (बाळबोध) script which means children’s can easily understand. It consists of 14 vowels, 36 consonants, and 2 sound modifiers. The Bāḷabodh syllabary is organised according to the way sounds are produced using the voice box and the mouth.

Balshastri Jambhekar (Marathi: बाळशास्त्री जांभेकर) (6 january 1812 – 18 May 1846) is also known as Father of Marathi journalism for his efforts in starting journalism in Marathi language with the first newspaper in the language named ‘Darpan’ in the early days of British Rule in India.

Vowels

The script of both the languages, Hindi and Marathi is same, which is known as ‘Devanagri’ (देवनागरी) script. Thus anybody who can read Hindi can read Marathi. This script is also used for other few languages like Sanskrit, Konkani, Nepali.

Marathi is difficult to speak even for a person who has no practice speaking it. In my opinion, Hindi is much easier to speak than Marathi. Because I was educated in an English medium school, I rarely had the opportunity to speak either Hindi or Marathi.

In independent India, these Marathas became the dominant political force in the newly-formed state of Maharashtra. The Maratha are ranked lower under this classification than the above castes but are considered higher than the Kunbi, backward castes and castes that were considered ritually impure.
