While only a few students become Coolidge Scholars, you shouldn’t be put off by that low number! There are other opportunities to win awards. Up to ten applicants become finalists. Finalists receive a one-time $5,000 scholarship.

Although very few candidates can win the Coolidge Scholarship, there are many benefits to applying. First, the finalists who are invited to interview but do not ultimately win the Coolidge Scholarship are eligible to receive a one-time Finalist Award scholarship.

The main criterion that distinguishes Coolidge Scholars therefore is academic excellence. Secondary criteria include: demonstrated interest in public policy; an appreciation for the values Coolidge championed; as well as humility and service.

The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any accredited American college or university.

The Coolidge Scholarship application includes three essays. Essays two and three both have required readings which can be found below. 2022 Coolidge Scholarship applicants must intend to enroll full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university as an undergraduate for the first time in fall 2023. That is to say, students in their junior year of high school, or the equivalent if home schooled, are eligible to apply.

An applicant cannot be the immediate family member of any current employee or trustee of the Coolidge Scholars Program or the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation. Award Amount: Amount varies. The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.

Nearly 2,500 students, hailing from all 50 states, applied for the Coolidge Scholarship this year. Each applicant was required to read and write an essay about the Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge.

The Coolidge Senators Program is a distinct program from the Coolidge Scholarship that recognizes one hundred top Coolidge Scholarship applicants who demonstrate exceptional academic accomplishments and show a special interest in Calvin Coolidge.

In 2020, she earned her school’s Negley Prize in history and in June 2021 was awarded Exeter’s Prize for Academic Achievement in the Study of Economics. Emma is the co-head of Exeter’s Economics Club and Microfinance Club, which makes loans to entrepreneurs in the developing world.
