For fruit trees, Epsom salt supports the absorption of vital nutrients increasing fruit production and sweetness. Because of this, low harvest or fruit that isn’t sweet can also indicate a need for more magnesium.

The powdered or crushed eggshells are best placed around fruit trees, tomatoes, roses and in potted plants, though it will be of benefit anywhere in the garden! As they decompose, the eggshells naturally enrich the soil, providing a slow, steady source of calcium, preventing blossom end rot from occurring.

Coffee grounds are highly acidic, they note, so they should be reserved for acid-loving plants like azaleas and blueberries. And if your soil is already high in nitrogen, the extra boost from coffee grounds could stunt the growth of fruits and flowers.

Urine makes a good fertilizer for citrus trees, but it should be diluted or composted first. Urine is high in nitrogen (also called urea), so it can be too potent for citrus trees on its own. Urinating on citrus trees on occasion won’t harm them.

Eggshells are calcium-rich organic material that decompose well when mixed into or layered on top of soil. Roses require heavy amounts of organic material to grow to their ultimate potential. Eggshells add nutrients, can help to stabilize the pH level and can act as a natural deterrent against pests.

Do Roses like Coffee Grounds?

1. Coffee grounds can be of great benefit rose bushes when used in moderation, but go sparingly.
2. Wait until April/May to apply coffee grounds when the rose is emerging from its winter dormancy and the new leaves are almost fully open.
3. Mix half a pound coffee grounds in a 2 gallon (9 litres) water can.

Banana peels provide many nutrients for roses. To start, they provide potassium, which can help the plant’s overall immune system, thereby helping the rose fight off any damage that can come from severe weather conditions such as humidity and frost or disease.
