But luckily, Jackson didn’t die in season 17, and the character is departing Seattle unscathed. In Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 14, titled “Look Up Child,” Jackson revealed his next big step — he wanted to run his family’s foundation to bring equity to healthcare.

Showrunner Krista Vernoff is planning a season finale that could just be the end of things. “We did everything we could,” Owen says in the promo for the March 18 crossover as the mourning begins. “And he’s still dead,” Teddy adds.

The iconic surgeon enters the episode suffering from a rare and near-impossible to treat bone cancer, a diagnosis introduced in the same episode that included Frankie’s heartbreaking death. Yet, when “Winner” comes to a close, Catherine doesn’t die.
