Hijikata Toshizō (土方 歳三, May 31, 1835 – June 20, 1869) was a Japanese warrior. As Vice-Commander (副長, Fukucho) of the Shinsengumi, he resisted the Meiji Restoration.

Now… Hijikata is clearly not Sugimoto’s father as we met Sugimoto’s father and he’s the split copy of his son, only thinner and older.

Story. Days after Shige Shige’s funeral, Nobu Nobu continues consolidating his power after his three months as shogun. He starts by arresting Matsudaira and Kondou for failing to protect the former shogun and sentencing them to death. He then disbands the Shinsengumi.

Hijikata’s group Assumed to have been dead for decades, he was held in secret as a political prisoner before escaping alongside the tattooed convicts. He forms a group to search for the gold, which he plans to use to fund the secession of Hokkaido and creation of a second Republic of Ezo.

He is a main protagonist and Chizuru ‘s implied canon love interest. Hijikata is one of the Vice-Commanders of the Shinsengumi, and later its only Commander. In the localization, he is referred to as the Commander from the beginning, and later becomes Chief.

Okita, a very handsome 20 year-old man, standing at either 176 cm or 178cm, with reddish brown hair in a topknot and emerald green eyes. He usually wears a loose red, gray, and orange haori and green hakama with a kind of white bandaging around his calves.

When Isami Kondou sacrifices himself to allow the Shinsengumi to escape, Hijikata nearly cries out of despair at his own powerlessness to protect the person he wanted to protect the most. He only obeys Kondou’s wishes after he, as commander of the Shinsengumi, orders him to leave with Chizuru.

Kondou Isao, who was watching, decided to pick him up and take him back with him to his dojo. At this dojo, Toshirou met the Okita siblings, Okita Sougo and Okita Mitsuba.
