South China tiger
Of all tiger subspecies, the South China tiger may be at the greatest risk of extinction. The WWF estimates there are just 30 to 80 South China tigers left in the world, all of which are in captivity; the South China tiger hasn’t been seen in the wild in over a quarter-century.

Pressures from illegal killing, a shrinking food supply, and habitat loss led to the extinction of the Bali, Javan, and Caspian subspecies, and continue to threaten the survival of the remaining subspecies. Today, habitat destruction, human population growth, and a demand for tiger parts threaten the tiger’s survival.

3,900 tigers
Around 3,900 tigers remain in the wild across the globe, according to World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Since the beginning of the 20th century, over 95% of the world’s tiger population is lost.

Key strategies:

1. Protect tigers and their habitat.
2. Build capacity in range states.
3. Reduce human-tiger conflict.
4. Conduct scientific research on tigers to help inform conservation strategies.
5. Promote tiger-friendly policies.
6. Monitor tiger numbers, population trends, and threats to tigers and their habitats.

Major reasons for population decline are habitat destruction, habitat fragmentation and poaching. Tigers are also victims of human–wildlife conflict, particularly in range countries with a high human population density.

Sumatran tigers are the rarest and smallest subspecies of tiger in the world and are currently classed as critically endangered.

These six include Siberian, Bengal, Sumatran, South-China, Indochinese, and Malayan tigers. All of these tigers are endangered; however, Sumatran tigers and South-China tigers are considered critically endangered. Fewer than 3,200 tigers remain in the wild within only less than 7% of their historic range.

Hunting and human population growth are the main threats to Bengal Tigers. All remaining tigers are classified as Endangered by IUCN (with the Sumatran and South China subspecies classified as Critically Endangered).

Healthy tiger habitats help mitigate climate change, provide fresh water to animals and people, reduce the impact of natural disasters, and improve the health of local people. A new WWF report details these often unseen benefits that result from protecting tigers and their homes.

Saving Tiger is not only our duty but also our responsibility. We have to support the government in its projects for the protection of the tigers so that a healthy population of the tigers exists. We should know that when we ask something from nature, we must be ready to give something back.

Why Are Tigers Endangered? Countless reasons, mostly man-made, are responsible for the continuing decrease in the number of tigers. These reasons include habitat loss, climate change, illegal poaching, and retaliatory killings. They are explained below: 1. Habitat Loss

Indochinese Tiger – Endangered As of now, Indo-Chinese tigers are considered endangered as there are only 350 them in the world. These tigers were used to be found in South Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, China, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

An endangered species is a species which is likely to become extinct in the near future. The IUCN are responsible for the largest and most comprehensive inventory of the conservation status of biological species. This inventory, known as the red list, is where we judge the status of species’.

Because of the relentless threats to this charismatic creature’s population, the Tiger has become the iconic symbol of wildlife conservation. Tigers typically hunt at night, practicing a ‘stalk and ambush’ strategy, their stripes providing camouflage in tall grass and forests.
