If you really want to be a fashionista in Final Fantasy 14, you'll want to dye your gear different colors to suit your needs. Coloring your items is easy, but you need to unlock the ability to color gear first.
Below we explain where you can unlock the coloring ability in FFXIV as well as how to color your gear with things like glamor tiles.
To unlock the ability to color, talk to Swyrgeim in Vesper Bay, the same NPC that unlocked glamour. As with glamour, you need to be at least level 15 and far enough along in the main scenario quests to have access to Western Thanalan. After completing the "Color Your World" quest, you will be able to color gears.
