The hospital scene in the End of Evangelion movie is extremely controversial. In that scene, a distressed Shinji visits Asuka in the hospital. He's looking for some answers or just a hint of human connection to help him deal with the emotional turmoil. However, seeing an unconscious Asuka, he shakes her in an attempt to wake her up.
