The Chimera Ant arc was exceptional. Yoshihiro Togashi outdid himself with that bow. It was full of memorable moments, including Gon's adult form, Komugi and Meruem's final game, Poor Man's Rose, etc. In that arc, fans got to experience the greatest villain ever in Hunter x Hunter. Meruem surpassed all previous protagonists.
Meruem defeated Netero, but the latter's masterstroke rid the Earth of the Chimera Ants. Even if it was only for a little while, fans experienced a transformed Meruem after his general tried to revive him. The form was so powerful that fans believe Netero would have lost sooner if he faced a transformed Meruem.
Hunter x Hunter fans had to wait several episodes to see Meruem's birth. Several humans were slaughtered and fed to the Queen Chimera Ant so that her son could become the ultimate being.
