This one of Matt Damon's most successful critical and commercial blockbusters just couldn't help Ridley Scott fulfill his innermost desires.

How Ridley Scott Made Matt Damon CRY in The Martian

Being two of the most respected and valued presences in Hollywood, Matt Damon and Ridley Scott's collaboration has always been widely regarded by fans from all over the world. For someone who started with 2015's The Martian, their collaboration was a huge success as it led to the film which is considered to be the actor's biggest draw.

And yet, as much as the film received critical and commercial acclaim, it still failed to capture one mark: Live up to the filmmaker's original dream for it. As it turns out, when he initially set out on this adventure, Scott misread the story to align with one he had wanted to do forever. Except it wasn't, due to a minor difference.

Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, The Martian sees Matt Damon's astronaut Mark Watney on a spectacular space mission to Mars before everything goes wrong. This is followed by his quest to survive on the planet while undergoing difficult challenges as his colleagues at NASA exhaust all options to get him back home.
