IBM has decided it's time to bring its Power-powered cloud on-prem.

How to plan for the IBM ii cloud

IBM Power Virtual Server Private Cloud — announced Tuesday with little fanfare — is based on IBM Power Virtual Server's Big Blue lease in a way that will be familiar to users of IaaS services.

"IBM Power Systems clients who have traditionally relied solely on on-premises infrastructure can now quickly and economically expand their Power IT resources off-premises," enthuses Big Blue's brochure for its off-prem virtual server service, which adds that the cloud-based Power servers are identical to the on-prem box and therefore require no software adjustments or new licenses.

IBM Power Virtual Server Private Cloud again replicates Power machines, but sends them to your preferred location where IBM runs them as managed infrastructure as a service.
