In the three and a half decades he has been active in the entertainment industry as an actor, Tobey Maguire has made sure to nail pretty much every role that has come his way. From his iconic web-slinging friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to his role as a jockey, he has shown that he can deliver flawlessly, no matter what the role demands of him.

Not only does he perfectly embody the characters assigned to him, but he also makes sure to learn throughout the process. That said, while Maguire was making his $148 million movie on jockeys, Seabiscuit, Maguire was also met with a harsh insight into the sport. And while this realization was terrifying, it also helped to instill in him a sense of deep admiration for jockeys as well.

Back in 2003, a year after playing Peter Parker in his 2002 masterpiece Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire had to significantly slim down to embody a jockey for Seabiscuit. Of course, this required him to cut back on his calories and sugar – which was anything but easy – and the actor had to undergo a serious workout to get in shape for the role.
