Matt Reeves is not willing to take his "The Batman" film franchise to a more fantastical level with more variety of villains.

Matt Reeves Reveals When Batman Sequel Begins Filming [Exclusive]

Matt Reeves received critical and commercial acclaim for his take on the Caped Crusader in The Batman. The 2022 film was widely praised for its down-to-earth characters and gritty take, which is eerily similar but not entirely identical to Christopher Nolan's version. But with Matt Reeves announcing his plans for the future of the franchise, fans want James Gunn to make a change to the DCU.

According to Reeves, The Batman – Part II will also tread on grounded characters and follow a story deeply rooted in Gotham's corruption and darkness. This has disappointed many fans who feel that James Gunn's DCU should focus on introducing interesting fantastic villains to Batman's story.

Despite fan skepticism regarding Robert Pattinson's casting, The Batman not only proved the haters wrong but also grossed $772 million (see Box Office Mojo). Apart from Pattinson's character, Colin Farrell's Penguin also received a lot of praise. The character even got his own solo series on Max that would tie directly into The Batman sequel.
