Batman: The Caped Crusader had an almost blasphemous relationship in his story, but was saved thanks to Bruce Timm's swift and thorough fall.

Bruce Timm's Batman: Caped Crusader has been a lot of fun for fans, but it almost wasn't. Instead, the show would have brought back some pretty scarring memories of a relationship that fans just can't get behind (and for good reason).

After The Killing Joke movie disastrously paired Barbara and Bruce, fans have turned away from any medium that dares repeat that blasphemy. Bruce Timm revealed that audiences were almost treated to a second serving of that atrocity, but thanks to Timm, it wasn't even considered a serious part of the story.

As revealed at X, Bruce Timm had to explain to a very enthusiastic executive why Batman: Caped Crusader couldn't depict Barbara and Bruce in a romantic relationship.
