Broccoli is one of the tastiest vegetables and I will no longer abide by its slander!

Pixar's Inside Out 2 is undeniably one of the summer's biggest films. Unfortunately, even its billion dollar box office revenue can't overcome one major failing, in my eyes: the broccoli slander.

As in the first film, the young teenager Riley despises broccoli. It's the food that first triggered the Disgust feeling when she was just a baby, and this continues as a running gag in the new movie. When she thinks of a crude protein bar, her Stream of Consciousness (which, in Inside Out fashion… is a literal stream, of course) shows a giant broccoli – rendered to look like a huge unattractive piece of plastic toy food. Disgust wrinkles her nose at it, but emotions have to jump on and ride it to get to the bottom of Riley's mind.

I understand that Riley personally dislikes broccoli and that everyone has different tastes. But Riley is a fictional character written by people, and she is one of many, many fictional characters who hates broccoli. So I just want to know: Why is broccoli the gross vegetable in pop culture? Yes, young children are often picky about greens. And yes, young children often don't get to try vegetables in tasty meals, instead just adding them. But broccoli is disproportionately portrayed as the yuckiest vegetable! Which in turn causes kids to turn their noses up at it, without really giving it a chance. Rude and frankly wrong, because broccoli is delicious.
