We've heard a lot about the iPhone 15 series getting a USB Type-C port to comply with EU legislation. It now feels like it's fully underway and to further confirm this we have new details regarding the iPhone 15's USB-C port, which may include a chip. Here's what this could mean.

Apple's USB-C trick: iPhone 15 Pro's hidden cable controversy?

Tipster Majin Bu has shown off the components of the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 (via X) and the leaked images suggest the inclusion of a chip (presumably a Retimer chip) with the model number 3LD3. There is no word on its functionality at this time, but this could possibly be used for transmission encryption to improve the security of data transfers.

There may be support for Thunderbolt as well (as hinted by ChargeLAB), which could mean high-speed data transfer (up to 40 Gbps). While this may also mean support for faster loading speeds, there are chances that this may be limited. Additionally, this could be for the iPhone 15 Pro models and the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus could go for a toned-down USB-C port, as previously rumored. iPhone15 Plus USB C connector details pic.twitter.com/J0nDO7WPeU — Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) August 14, 2023
