Convention Genre Audience This is the group of people who watch the play. Many playwrights and actors consider the audience to be the most important element of drama, as all of the effort put in to writing and producing a play is for the enjoyment of the audience.

There are six main elements of drama which serve as the basis of producing a successful play. These essential elements of drama include the plot of the story, the theme, the genre in which the story belongs, the characters, the setting, and the audience.

Drama is a teaching method, which would allow students to explore the curriculum using several of Gardner’s multiple intelligences. Students are fully involved in learning with drama. They are immersed into the subject. Their bodies, minds, and emotions are extremely active when they become engrossed in the drama.

Using plays with language learners can: encourage creativity. help them experiment with language – tone of voice, body language and their own lines if they are involved in writing the play. involve the whole class – non-speaking parts can be given to learners who do not wish to speak or are less confident.
