In the Catching Fire novel, Katniss mentioned communicating with Mags, noting the elder woman’s garbled speech or possible accent. It was also insinuated that the lead heroine believed that Mags previously suffered from a stroke, which would have cleared up her limited communication.

As it is not stated that Annie was a volunteer Career Tribute, she may not have actually been, even though she came from a Career district. It is stated in The Hunger Games Exhibition that Annie is 23 years old, making her 18 at the time of her victory.

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark only had one mentor for both the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, Haymitch Abernathy. This was due to him being the only living victor of District 12. The mentor program was established with the 10th Hunger Games.

Before Katniss can reach her and bring her to safety, the second wave of bombs explodes, killing Prim and other medics and badly burning Katniss. Prim’s last word ever in the book is Katniss. Katniss becomes so unhinged after Prim’s death that she loses her voice for several days.
