DeYoung has been married to his wife, Suzanne DeYoung, since 1970. He married his high school sweetheart before Styx recorded their first album. “Babe” from 1979 was written as a birthday present for his wife and not meant for the band to record. We’ve been married since the stone age.”

Dennis DeYoung still hasn’t gotten over the fact that Styx exists without him fronting the band. DeYoung, who was replaced as the band’s lead singer in 1999 by guitarists Tommy Shaw and J.Y. Young, still holds out hope for a final reunion with Styx. But Tommy Shaw was the only one who spoke, and he said no.”

Epstein-Barr Syndrome
DeYoung joined the 1997 Styx reunion tour but asked the others to delay their 1999 tour because he was suffering side effects of Epstein-Barr Syndrome. Last month, the singer told Pollstar he had been ill since early 1998 and was finally diagnosed with the mysterious, energy-sapping illness in the spring of ’99.

Styx founder Dennis DeYoung explains why he wants back into the band, breaks down his new solo record, and chats about the Hall of Fame. For the past 20 years, Styx have put their fans in an impossible situation.

Shaw currently leads Styx along with James “JY” Young, the only remaining members from Styx’s heyday (although original bassist Chuck Panozzo appears as a guest musician for most of their concerts). Upon their reformation in 1996, Styx released the live album Return to Paradise.

Of the four million that sold only the first million were actually etched. It was the brainchild of Jeff Ayeroff at A and M. and was awfully cool. They contain the same lyrics and photo’s as the originals including the Grand Illusion poster.

Tom Scholz the guitar player and keyboard wiz was the mastermind behind the group and remains so to this day. Throw in Brad Delps supersonic vocals and Ya got somethin. Turn on any classic hits or classic rock station today and you might think it’s still 1976, thats how monumental that record was.

Or was it “What Has Come Between Us” a song given to us to record that contained the lyrical chorus “Lovely Lady” that I thought sounded pretty cool that once again had seeped into my brain.
