The Suzuki Jimny (Japanese: スズキ・ジムニー, Suzuki Jimunī) is a line of four-wheel drive off-road mini SUVs, manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Suzuki since April 1970, now in its fourth generation. Suzuki has marketed 2.85 million Jimnys in 194 countries through September 2018.

Suzuki has been absent from the North American market for a few years now, but the small Japanese automaker is still very active elsewhere. These will be marketed under the Suzuki banner. Toyota will build the latter model for Suzuki at its UK plant, with production getting underway in 2020.

The magazine says the Suzuki Jimny three-door built in India is identical to the version made in Suzuki’s plant located in Kosai, Japan, where Australian vehicles are sourced. The Indian production line has the capability to produce both right- and left-hand drive vehicles, the magazine says.

The surge in demand for the Suzuki Jimny in Australia comes as Suzuki of Europe turned the vehicle into a two-seater commercial vehicle to side-step stringent emissions rules for passenger cars. He joined CarAdvice / Drive in late 2018, and has been a World Car of the Year judge for 10 years.
