Q. Is Kalrez the same as FFKM?
Perfluoroelastomers (FFKM) are best known as DuPontTM Kalrez, although other grades do exist. The compounds contain fully fluorinated polymer chains and hence offer the ultimate performance of elastomers when considering heat and chemical resistance.
Q. Is Kalrez a PTFE?
In addition, Kalrez® is a thermoset perfluoroelastomer part and offers excellent elastic properties and resistance to mechanical damage, unlike PTFE which is a thermoplastic and appears to lack the necessary resilience to withstand mechanical shock in a process application such as this.

Q. What is Kalrez rubber?
DuPont™ Kalrez® 6190 perfluoroelastomer parts are a carbon black-filled product specifically designed for custom part and high volume applications. It has excellent thermal stability good mechanical strength properties and can be used in both static and dynamic sealing applications up to 300 °C (572 °F).
Q. Why is Kalrez so expensive?
The name Kalrez® is a trademark of Dupont. The material is actually an improved version of Viton with 20% more fluorine in the chains, making it an extremely expensive per fluorocarbon elastomer.
Q. Are FKM and Viton the same?
These rubber compounds give exceptional heat resistance with compatibility across many fluids or chemical exposures. The most commonly known name for these compounds is “Viton,”™ which has become the generic name for all FKM polymers and rubber compounds.
Q. What is Ffkm material?
Perfluoroelastomers (FFKM) are the elastomeric form of poly(tetrafluoro ethylene) or PTFE. These elastomers have a fully fluorinated backbone. They are the most chemically resistant elastomers available on the market and have outstanding high temperature and chemical resistance.
Q. Is Ffkm a Teflon?
In this respect FFKMs are similar to PTFE. However the major difference is vinyl ether side groups and crosslinking. The vinyl ether side groups protrude from the backbone, preventing the long chain polymers from lining up, which would result in a more crystalline (plastic) material, such as PTFE.
Q. When was Kalrez invented?
Given the chemical structure and performance similarities of FFKMs to PTFE, perfluoroelastomers are sometimes referred to as an elastomeric form of PTFE. Perfluoroelastomers were first developed in the late 1960s, and were trademarked as Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts, by The DuPont Company.
Q. What is Viton rubber used for?
Viton: A Rubber Compound for Fuel and Oil Applications These days, Viton seals, o-rings, and others rubber parts are now used regularly in the automotive, appliance, chemical, and fluid power industries thanks to its natural resistance to both fuel and oil.
Q. What are the properties of Kalrez 4079 compound?
Kalrez® 4079 is a black, low compression set compound for use in many dry and wet semiconductor process environments. It has excellent chemical resistance, good mechanical properties and outstanding thermal stability. Kalrez® 4079 exhibits low weight loss in reactive plasmas and has good response to temperature cycling effects.
Q. What are the physical properties of DuPont Kalrez?
DuPont™ Kalrez® 4079 is a low compression set product for general-purpose use in O-rings, diaphragms, seals, and other parts used in the process and aircraft industries. It is a carbon black-filled product with excellent chemical resistance, good mechanical properties, and outstanding hot air aging properties.
Q. What kind of compression set is Kalrez for?
A low compression set product for general-purpose use in O-rings, diaphragms, seals, and other parts used in the process and aircraft industries. It is a carbon black-filled product with excellent chemical resistance, good mechanical properties, and outstanding hot air aging properties.
Q. What kind of finish does Kalrez spectrum 7075 have?
Kalrez ® Spectrum™ 7075 O-rings have a glossy finish. This product was specifically developed for the chemical and hydrocarbon industries to provide improved chemical and thermal resistance better than the industry standard set by Kalrez ® 4079.
