Although Ativan is a legal drug, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency classifies lorazepam as a Schedule IV narcotic, meaning that it is illegal to use the drug without a prescription.

Although most benzodiazepines show up in standard urine tests, some don’t. Alprazolam, clonazepam, temazepam, and triazolam may not be found in many of the common tests. Many benzodiazepine tests can find whether the medicine is present, but they can’t give the amount.

Lorazepam may be detectable in urine samples for up to six days, and some of the metabolites may be detectable for even longer (nine days). If regularly abused, urinalysis may reveal the presence of lorazepam after a week or longer.

In the case of unexpected positive benzodiazepine results, consider the following drug exposures: Chlordiazepoxide (Librax®, Librium®), Clorazepate (Gen-xene®, Tranxene®), Diazepam (Valium®), Oxazepam, and/or Temazepam (Restoril®).

A review of secondary sources revealed sertraline to be a well-described cause of false-positive benzodiazepine screens. In 2006, Rapuri et al1 list sertraline and oxaprozin as causing false-positive screening results for benzodiazepines.

Most people who take gabapentin don’t get any side effects. The most common ones are feeling sleepy, tired and dizzy. Side effects are usually mild and go away by themselves. It takes at least a few weeks for gabapentin to work.

Gabapentin can produce feelings of relaxation, calmness and euphoria. Some users have reported that the high from snorted gabapentin can be similar to taking a stimulant. It can also enhance the euphoric effects of other drugs, like heroin and other opioids, and is likely to increase the risks when taken in this way.
