Do you consider Polyphemus a villain? Polyphemus is not a villain to him, but once he started eating Odysseus’ men, he became a villain. His actions are not justified because Odysseus did not have a tender heart to forgive him. He just blinded and tortured him which was wrong.

Polyphemus, in Greek mythology, the most famous of the Cyclopes (one-eyed giants), son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and the nymph Thoösa. According to Ovid in Metamorphoses, Polyphemus loved Galatea, a Sicilian Nereid, and killed her lover Acis.

He is a giant with only one eye. His kind is called Cyclops. They are strong, huge and cruel monsters that are also man-eating monsters. Polyphemus, the Cyclops, trapped Odysseus and the men in his cave.

Polyphemus says that he’ll eat Odysseus last. Why does Odysseus blind Polyphemus rather than kill him? To ensure that the man is really Odysseus because he is the only one who knows everything about their bed.

He asks that Odysseus never return home, or that it take him a long time to get there, arriving alone, without his men. How do we know that Polyphemus’ prayer was answered? When we meet Odysseus on Calypso’s, he has been held captive there for 7 years, and he is there without his men.

The Curse of the Cyclops: “Hear me, Poseidon … If truly I am your son, and you acknowledge yourself as my father, grant that Odysseus, who styles himself Sacker of Cities and son of Laertes, may never reach his home in Ithaca.

He got the Cyclops drunk on his wine to make him pass out. Odysseus demonstrated god-like qualities when he tricked the Cyclops Polyphemus by telling him his name “Nobody”, and then disguising his men as sheep so that Polyphemus would let them out of his cave.

In The Odyssey, Odysseus tells Polyphemus that his name is Nobody as part of an elaborate trick. He knows that in the event of his escape, Polyphemus will call for help. But if he calls for help in catching “Nobody,” then no one will come to his aid.

Odysseus slips his name in order to show the Cyclops that he was the one who defeated him. This will later come back to haunt Odysseus when Polyphemus tells his father, Poseidon. Why does Odysseus reveal his name to Polyphemus after he has escaped? To prove to Polyphemus that he was the one who defeated him.

Why don’t the other Cyclopses help Polyphemus after Odysseus gouges out his eye? They don’t like Polyphemus so they refuse to help him.

2) How does Odysseus escape Polyphemus? The cyclops Polyphemus traps Odysseus and his men in a cave, behind an enormous rock. Next, he gives the cyclops wine to get him drunk, and he tells the cyclops his name is “Nobody.” When the cyclops falls asleep, Odysseus blinds him with the hardened stake.

What does Polyphemus ask Poseidon, the god of the sea, to do? Polyphemus asks Poseidon to make sure either Odysseus never returns home or returns home alone under a strange sail.

Polyphemus prayed to his father Poseidon that Odysseus never get home. If he did make it home, let it be many years away. He also prayed for Odysseus to lose all of his men/companions. Then once he arrived home, he was to face “bitter days.” All of these prayers were granted.

They do so one afternoon as Odysseus sleeps; when the Sun finds out, he asks Zeus to punish Odysseus and his men. Shortly after the Achaeans set sail from Thrinacia, Zeus kicks up another storm, which destroys the ship and sends the entire crew to its death beneath the waves.
