Been looking around and people have said that if your dreamcast was made after OCT 2000 it cannot play burnt games. Others have said underneath the dreamcast, there is a circle and with in that circle, if it has a 1 it can play burnt games and if it has a 2 it cannot.

There are two ways to rip Dreamcast games:

No the European model cannot play Japanese Dreamcast games outright. Japan and North America use Ntsc based games that work in those regions. Burned Dreamcast games do not damage your GDR-drive but as stated above it can wear out the motor and lead to damaging / breaking your Dreamcast. The problem though is that its going to happen anyway. Dreamcast has moving parts like any new console, so sooner of later it will break down after extended use.

The Dreamcast died for two reasons… first, it was designed at a time when companies were still trying to profit from the console and the cost to profit was too high for the market. Secondly, it was technologically ahead of the market. Their previous products were the Genesis and CD.

Sega dreamcast’s library wasn’t nearly as impressive. The graphics on the ps2 were also overall better. The Dreamcast was nothing more than a last ditch effort to try and salvage a dying company. Unfortunately for Sega, the success of the PS1 and failure of the Saturn made it very hard for them to get a strong library.

Did some research. Compared to the PS2, the Dreamcast has advantages over rendering higher quality textures than the PS2 but the PS2 has a much more powerful geometry, lighting, and particle renderer.

The GameCube was factually more powerful than the PS2, and it’s easily noticable when you compare the same game on the two systems. The GameCube version of the game usually would look sharper, clearer than the PS2 versions of the games.
