Well, looking at the incredible premise and interesting characters of Rebel Moon, it feels like the story is based on a book or a novel. However, contrary to what many fans believe, Rebel Moon is not based on any book. It is an original work of fiction that came from the brilliant mind of Zack Snyder.
That said, it's pretty obvious that the franchise is inspired by the fantastical universe of Star Wars. In the first part, you can see a character with a sword similar to the Star Wars lightsaber.
