Reformation began by selling vintage clothing out of a small Los Angeles storefront in 2009. We quickly expanded into making our own stuff, with a focus on sustainability.

But why exactly is Reformation so expensive? As outlined by EDITED, the prices reflect the brand’s commitment to sustainability. “Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. Per EDITED, the main things that drive up Reformation’s price points are the fabrics and sustainable packaging.

There are people behind the clothes we wear, and too often they work under terrible conditions. That’s why we built our own sustainable factory in Los Angeles, where we work with awesome people from all over the world.

That’s the response Madewell received after images surfaced of a black model in one of the brand’s dresses. The model, who has since been identified as Marihenny Pasible, is seen in an adorable sweater dress, but all anyone can focus on is her hair. Or better yet, her supposed lack of a natural hairstyle.

Everlane’s environment rating is ‘not good enough’. It uses some eco-friendly materials including recycled fabrics. There is no evidence it minimises textile waste when manufacturing its products.
