Globalization refers to the historical process by which all the world’s people increasingly come to live in a single social unit. It implicates religion and religions in several ways. Among the consequences of this implication for religion have been that globalization encourages religious pluralism.

Secularization refers to the historical process in which religion loses social and cultural significance. As a result of secularization the role of religion in modern societies becomes restricted.

What they were, however, were prominent figures in the secularization movement, which wanted to take Church power away from the colonial Spanish and give native Filipinos increased roles in Church affairs.

By diminishing the barriers between different cultures, globalisation lands religion in a quagmire of conflicts which reinforce social identities as some do not accept the new realities and turn to religion to rediscover their own identity. Religion provides a sense of belongingness to a group in the world.

Economic globalization is increasing GDP in all participating countries. Globalisation therefore has negative income effects for certain people and regions in the countries involved. This can lead to growing social tensions that have a negative impact on economic development.

Globalization has benefits that cover many different areas. It reciprocally developed economies all over the world and increased cultural exchanges. It also allowed financial exchanges between companies, changing the paradigm of work. Many people are nowadays citizens of the world.
