Shan Yu was inspired by the real-life Attila the Hun. Though while Shan Yu died by the hands of fireworks, Attila died by choking on his own blood the night he was to be wed to his future wife, Ildico. Coincidently the name of the computer system that was used to animate the Hun army charge was called Attila.

And as we go, as the strategy starts to take effect to benefit Bori Khan, more and more you see his true colors, you see his true intentions. You start seeing the unraveling of utilizing Xian Lang just as a tool, just as a stepping stone to get to where he wants to be and what he needs.

Disneystrology — March 28 – Shan Yu (Mulan) IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS ON…

In 1998’s Mulan, Imperial China is invaded by Shan Yu and his Elite Hun army – who are based in part on Genghis Khan and the Mongol empire and also on Attila the Hun – and Mulan is forced to join up in the place of her aging father, disguising herself as a man to allow her conscription.

Cri-Kee is a “lucky” cricket purchased by Grandmother Fa, who believed Mulan needed all the help she could receive during her trip to the Matchmaker. However, despite being deemed a lucky cricket, Cri-Kee confesses to Mushu at one point that he is not, which would explain his timid behavior during dangerous situations.

And after Xian Lang’s death, she would battle against Böri Khan and Mulan cuts the rope and falls down into the pallace and he was killed by an arrow.

While the social and cultural milieu of the Northern Wei dynasty provided the context for the tale’s origins, there’s no corroborative evidence to confirm that Mulan was ever a real person. Over time, the story and character’s nomadic and tribal origins have significantly changed from the original.

Mushu
Any ’90s kids will remember Eddie Murphy as the hilarious voice behind Mushu, Mulan’s trusty and spunky sidekick in the 1998 classic animated Disney film.

Japan, Edo period, 1632. According to the legend, Yao became the ruler at 20 and died at 119 when he passed his throne to Shun the Great, to whom he had given his two daughters in marriage. According to the Bamboo Annals, Yao abdicated his throne to Shun in his 73rd year of reign, and continued to live during Shun’s reign for another 28 years.

Emperor Yao was very impressed by all of Shun’s achievements, and thus chose Shun as his successor and put him on the throne in the year of Jiwei (己未). Yao’s capital was in Ji (冀) which in modern times is also in Shanxi province.

Of his many contributions, Yao is said to have invented the game of Weiqi, reportedly to favorably influence his vicious playboy son Danzhu. After the customary three-year mourning period after Yao’s death, Shun named Danzhu as the ruler but the people only recognized Shun as the rightful heir.

Shun is sometimes referred to as the Great Shun ( 大舜) or as Yu Shun or Shun of Yu ( 虞舜 ), “Yu” being the name of his fief, which he received from Yao. According to traditional sources, Shun received the mantle of leadership from Emperor Yao at the age of 53, and then died at the age of 100 years.
