On one side of the delta is saltwater from the ocean. On the other side is freshwater coming down from California’s mountain. And in the middle is the low-lying delta land, much of it below sea level. About 1,100 miles of earthen walls called levees keep the land dry, and keep the salt- and freshwater from mixing.

North of Antioch and Pittsburg, the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers join at the head of Suisun Bay, marking the official end of both rivers. The combined waters flow west through Suisun Bay and the Carquinez Strait into San Pablo Bay and San Francisco Bay, joining the Pacific at the Golden Gate.

Consequently, the nature of pollution in the Sacramento River and the diversion of its waters for irrigation, is inextricably intertwined with agricultural practices. Farmers’ use of chemical pesticides pollute the river and have resulted in reduced water quality.

The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta The mixing of fresh water and salt water (brackish water) in Suisun Bay and the Delta provides essential estuarine habitat for migratory fish like salmon and resident fishes like delta smelt and striped bass.

Visitors should follow the directions on all posted signs and: Do not swim or wade near algae or algae scum. Keep children and pets away from algae in the water or on the shore. Do not drink the water or use it for cooking or cleaning.

Sacramento River Watershed

Due to the lack of reliable dry season rainfall, water is limited in the most populous U.S. state. An ongoing debate is whether the state should increase the redistribution of water to its large agricultural and urban sectors, or increase conservation and preserve the natural ecosystems of the water sources.

California’s Water Supply. California depends on two sources for its water: surface water and groundwater. The water that runs into rivers, lakes and reservoirs is called “surface water.” Groundwater is found beneath the earth’s surface in the pores and spaces between rocks and soil.

Is 120k a good salary in California? Yes, if you don’t want to buy a house. And better in Northern CA, than in Los Angeles or San Diego.

80K for a single person is more than Decent. If you want your money to go further move to the eastbay. I”m assuming after taxes your take home pay is around 5000 per month. You can do just about anything you want with that money since you have no kids etc.
