The math placement test at University of California Davis isn’t hard if you receive the necessary individualized instruction when preparing for the test. With a study guide that has a math tutor built into the program, you’ll get all the help you need.

Take the math course placement again: The placement is offered twice per quarter during the academic year and once per summer session. If you did not place into the class you need during the first session, you are eligible to take again during the second session.

90 minutes
You will have 90 minutes to complete the math placement. Once you begin, a timer will appear in the corner of your screen. The timer will not stop for any reason. If you do not submit your math placement within the time limit, your math placement will not be graded.

As most all CA&ES majors require mathematics and/or chemistry, you will be required to take the appropriate placement exam prior to enrolling (or before instruction begins). The Mathematics Placement Exam determines your level of preparation for college-level math courses offered at UC Davis.

Reminder: If you want to satisfy the UC Davis foreign language requirement, you must be proctored online or at the UC Davis Language Center in Olson Hall. A proctored exam is good for BOTH the fulfillment of the language requirement and placement (course enrollment).

After the second attempt at the Math Placement Test, retakes must be proctored by UC staff and can only be taken after 21 days have passed from the last attempt.

What is the Math Placement Test? The Math Placement Test is MyMathTest from Pearson Publishing. The test includes tests of Intermediate Algebra skills, College Algebra skills and Pre-Calculus skills. You must achieve a score of 70% or better on the Intermediate Algebra test to take the College Algebra test.

MATH 21A: Multivariable Calculus.

All students who register in MAT 12, 16A, 17A, 21A, or 21 are required to take the Mathematics Placement Exam Math Placement Exam.

Meeting the requirement as a freshman The “e” subject requirement for freshman admission requires two years of a language other than English. In some cases, this will satisfy a student’s language requirement for their UC program. In many cases, however, additional study is necessary at the college level.

There will be two math placement sessions per quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring), and a student may only take it once per math placement session. If you need special accommodations due to a disability, please contact the UC Davis Student Disabilities Center.

Students enrolled in Mathematics 12, 16A, 17A, 21A, or 21M without satisfying the required minimum scores will be administratively dropped from the course by the mathematics department after the end of the last math placement session for that particular quarter.

Math Placement sessions for Fall Quarter are open to all students. If you are registered in MAT 12, 16A, 17A, 21A, or 21M and have not taken the placement, or did not received a qualifying score for the course you are registered in, you will be automatically registered in the placement session listed below:
