Community College While students don’t need a high school diploma to attend, a high school diploma or GED is typically required to qualify for federal financial aid. There is no application deadline, but early application is encouraged.

There is no limitation on the number of years students can attend a community college. Some students stay for one year while others stay for three, four, or even five years. Community college accepts anyone who applies so it has students of various academic levels.

All new students, unless exempt, are required to take the college placement test in English and Math upon arrival at HCC to determine course placement. Students may be exempted from the placement test only if they submit proof of successful completion of ENC 1101 or qualifying SAT/ACT scores.
