The hit NBC sitcom FRIENDS had its own fan base and popularity that many found almost impossible to compete with. But while the show was incredibly popular, like the rest, it wasn't immune to certain generalizations. Something that actress Courteney Cox, who played Monica in the sitcom, had been quite vocal about.

In an earlier interview, the actress expressed her criticism of the Generation X label, adding how this tag had not only misrepresented the entire cast but also categorized them as aimless.

When FRIENDS hit NBC screens in 1994, the media and public alike were quick to attach the typical Generation X tag to it. While it was then, today, nearly three decades after its premiere, the sitcom is discussed mostly from the camera lens of millennials, or Gen Z, rather than from Generation X.
