Hajime Isayama allowed Attack on Titan's characters to rise in a way that no other mangaka could, by sidelining the main character for a period of time.

7 Moments The Genius Isayama Sensei Used To Foretell The Truth About The Titans

Hajime Isayama took his time crafting Attack on Titan's story, with each character given an opportunity to be properly fleshed out. There was a unique way of storytelling that gave insight into characters that no one would have even considered in the first place. While there's a lot left unsaid that could have helped the series be perfect, that doesn't make it any less good.

There were some creative decisions made by the mangaka that worked and others that just didn't. A trick he performed in the manga was also perhaps one of his best ideas. The way it changed the trajectory of the series helped shape a whole new story in the process.

During an interview with Crunchyroll, Hajime Isayama talked about how while Attack on Titan continued, there was a need to change the pace of the story to add a whole new side to the story. It was important to see that Eren's story alone could not carry the entire series. There had to be more than just that.
