Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia has a large amount of interesting and unique character designs. It's common for mangakas to start with one idea and end with another. Changes occur as the story progresses and over time various aspects of the design and story may also change. It may be based on convenience or simply a personal choice, but when these changes come into play, they affect the story in one way or another.

Some original designs tend to be much darker than the final product, Tanjiro from Demon Slayer being one such case. Horikoshi also found himself with a much darker idea for a villain in the series that could have looked so much scarier than it turned out to be.

Shigaraki Tomura is a character that oozes creepy in the best possible way. Whether it's through his deeds or his quirkiness, he's a menacing villain recognizable through and through with his blue hair and battered appearance. But Kohei Horikoshi made him almost a character that looked straight out of a Junji Ito story.
