Mikasa, the character from Attack on Titan is one of the most central characters in the show. Hajime Isayama made his character one of the show's well-known characters. In the show, Mikasa is often shown walking by the side of Eren, the main character of the show, which can make it seem like she is only there to help Eren grow.
However, Hajime Isayama never wanted Mikasa to be there just to support Eren. In an interview posted by Yusenki, it was revealed that he wanted to give Mikasa individual importance in the story, making her no less than other main characters. According to the manga, it wouldn't be interesting if Mikasa was just there to support Eren.
Mikasa grows as a different and individual character in the plot. As the story continues, it becomes apparent that Mikasa plays an extraordinary role in the plot. She is often seen fighting the Titans hand-on-hand with other warriors from the Scout Regiment. The mangaka didn't want Mikasa to be a conventional heroine. Rather, he gave Mikasa one of the strongest characters in the story along with Levi and others.
