Santa Monica Studio took a gamble and introduced Atreus as a companion throughout the Norse saga and gave Kratos a second chance. Not knowing the truth of his divinity, Atreus did everything to gain the approval of the former war god, feeling that he was unwanted given their differences. Some fans theorized that Atreus intentionally scarred his face to feel more like his father.
