Helldivers 2 got into a huge controversy two months ago, resulting in a total backlash against the game from the PC community. The backlash was in response to the decision made by Sony to make PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts mandatory for players across platforms to access the game.
The game received many negative responses, as criticism spread like wildfire and soon became out of control for Arrowhead or Sony to contain. Eventually, they gave in to the players' demands and even offered a reward in exchange for players who stood their ground during the most difficult period of the game.
Helldivers 2 was heavily reviewed on Steam after the PSN controversy, with some players suggesting that the negative review graph be immortalized as a cape. The idea didn't take long to catch the ears of Arrowhead executives, and they quickly jumped on it.
