ThinkSystem will be based at the agency's Hartree Center in Daresbury, about half an hour's drive outside Liverpool, where it will "drive AI research for UK industry," according to a Lenovo statement released on Tuesday.
Lenovo explained that the new supercomputer will be "strategically positioned to contribute to discovery-driven industrial research, focusing on solutions to global challenges in areas such as weather and climate modeling, cleaner energy initiatives, drug discovery, health technology, new materials, automotive advances and legal applications."
Construction of a £30 million ($37.8 million) facility that will house Lenovo's supercomputer began last February.
