Since its release in 1997, Eiichiro Oda's famous manga One Piece has been a staple in the anime and manga world. Toei Animation has further increased the popularity of this series through its anime adaptation. However, despite its success, Toei Animation has received its fair share of criticism for its censorship and toned down depiction of the manga's darker themes. Manga readers have long yearned for an adaptation that captures Oda's raw, cruel vision.

It looks like their dreams are finally coming true now. With Netflix's announcement, the new anime remake of One Piece produced by WIT Studio promises to address the longstanding criticism of Toei's adaptation by portraying the darker, more violent aspects of Oda's manga. Needless to say, WIT Studio is known for producing several intense and mature anime adaptations such as Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga.

During the Jump Festa 2024 held in December 2023, the announcement was made for the One Piece anime remake. Streaming giant Netflix confirmed that they would be teaming up with WIT Studio to produce an anime remake of One Piece that stays true to Oda's darker vision.
