LG Electronics plans to expand its data center cooling business to cash in on demand for AI.

The Korean giant already operates a significant heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) business serving operators of large buildings. Over the past three years, sales of the chillers it offers as part of this deal have grown at an average rate of over 15 percent.

LGE now hopes to use these coolers to target data center operators, and also plans to commercialize new products – including liquid immersion cooling, where it already claimed to be "gaining traction".

The details were revealed at the company's Investors Forum in Seoul. The event saw executives wax lyrical about the progress and direction of its 2030 Future Vision – a plan launched last year that aims to see LGE expand beyond traditional electronics and home appliances into areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and connected devices.
